As far as I am aware there is no precedent for an actual written invoking of ones' Human Right to Freedom of Conscience to escape a church.

The very notion of even needing to this is absurd -- but this is not an ordinary c--t,

I think WT/JW fear Freedom of Conscience claims in the same way employers fear racial discrimination claims.

The ARC is a perfect example of what happens - that was a demonstration of a tribunal at work in the Australian system and you should know that the same processes apply to tribunals of Human Rights abuses claims.as to the Rights of the Child claims

Elders will be fully aware that they have exactly zero ecclesiastic authority over non-members.

To disfellowship a non member would be a greater violation of that persons religious rights as to demand a Jew eat a ham sandwich.

Does not their own policy state that a DFing is effected upon an elders' announcement?

Failure to follow procedure would embolden families to not shun their kid or kids to not their parent.(sad,sad)

No announcement = no DF = no shunning is the logic that members can apply.

Phizzy - As always my friend, your intellect and compassion still shine on this forum.

Sadly the concept of any novel approach to leaving a cult goes straight over the heads of armchair critics and back porch haters.

While we await their superior solutions, we wade through post after post of "...can't, never, worthless, won't, not me, nope, haha,..."

It is a complete explanation of what our signed document is and is not. In all the intervening months not a single naysayer-not one.... even figured out why you might want to avoid the use of a Letter of Disassociation or whether or not 'Human Rights" means anything at all at an actual Human Rights Tribunal. (yes its' a real thing)

On one of todays posts I suggested that our little document of emancipation might spark some positive "..self- awareness among the elder body.." The reply was, and I quote "-uh?"....talk about lack of self-awareness !

I remember this forum as a hotbed of humor, sarcasm, wit , intelligent banter and serious discussions.

I followed and read ever page of Coftys' 120 page challenge to defend 'Natural Evil' - Classic Cofty.

It was on this forum I learned the phrase "intellectual dishonesty" and realised that was the term which applied to my first inklings that the WT was 'not as advertised', I had been 'inkled' at a district convention years earlier.

This forum (Cofty again?) ran a series of posts regarding logical phallacies, and introduced me to critical thinking.

Now it galls me to introduce an original idea that may have broader application to just Jws - rabid evangelical families, Mormons, Muslims ,Scientologists all need a clearer quicker path for those who wish to leave.

If '-uh?' is now an indication of the standard of communication here,.. there is not relly much more to say.

you don't send it- you sign it, date it and keep it safe!

You are no longer an affiliate of any church since that date - why? because you stated so in a document.

You have exactly as much legal right to repudiate church membership as they have to claim you as a (volunteer) member. Religion is a wholly voluntary interest.

Churches ecclesiastic authority does not apply to non-members.You are now a non-member and you have written proof.

You can continue your fade if that's your style but when the hounders become unbearable -show a copy of your emancipation and it's date, and carry on with your life as you please -visit the hall, your family whatever...

We have exactly as much freedom as we are willing to exercise (in matters religious)

The quotes from Human Rights expressions from various nations makes clear that:

1. government won't establish any religion, nor support nor hinder those that arise spontaneously population.

2.government extends the right for citizens/others to establish, join, volunteer to, OR quit any religion anytime.

You and I have exactly the same rights to freedom of/from religion - that religions have to recruit and indoctrinate.

Nobody is going to court - not yet (not till the right time and circumstances exist - our Viola Desmond moment).

This document is not to stir up confrontation - quite the opposite

.The process that inspired this "Quitting Quietly" by this document accomplishes these useful goals:

a) Provides (privately kept) proof that you are already not a member - thus not under church authority.

b) assures that we have control of our own spiritual lives

c) Undermines the elders' authority- (nobody wants the job now) - wait til hundreds quit quietly and they don't know and look like a-holes trying to arrange meetings with non-members EMBARRASSING

d )Suggests a "'constitutional' reason for a nonJW spouse to support his/her childs' emancipation from religous nonsense - imagine a non-believer realizing their child is exposed to this level of contempt.

e) Another cause for honest reflection about Human Rights a subject never taught and never practiced by JWsElders may recognize themselves as enablers to a corporation that brings division and suffering to families where none need exist.

f) Self Awareness. As no religion is named, let's see who self-identifies with the hateful methods repudiated. The hypocrisies are marked with an asterisk - let's see who self-identifies with those.

g) Exposes bullies from conscientious elders - may lead to corporate change -nothing else has' maybe loads of embarrassingly explicit proclamations floating around inside the congos will?

This is just off the top of my tiny head - I invite inclusions to this list...

You know that Human Rights in the USA is a sketchy, poorly supported vague and nebulous concept.

The idea that Human conscience should be protected and enshrined in right seems almost quaint.

You have a myriad of social dysfunctions that result.

The US is domicile to most of the greedy, ignorant, abusive, armed evangelical cults.

It follows that in a nation where any hillbilly with a gun, a bible and a box of snakes will be recognized as a pastor and a prophet of Jebus that perhaps humanity needs more stable direction.

The elders WANT a leaver to tender a letter of 'disassociation". triggering the spontaneous ecclesiastic judicial action of DFing a dangerous apostate.

This proclamation is signed and retained well before a PIMO or fader hits the elders radar.

It is not a letter of DA, nor a letter to the elders, it is a persons' private exercise of their Human Rights.-

freedom of conscience and religion.

Because it's dated and the rights are already claimed, there is no need for elders interference- the date on the document preempt their authority over ones privacy and affairs.
